Cathie Hedrick-Armstrong is an Oklahoma-native transplanted in Minnesota and holds a bachelors degree in Journalism with a minor in History from the University of Oklahoma.
A life-long lover of books, Cathie remembers the exact day she unlocked the secret code behind letters that, when combined, form words. Since then, it’s the rare occasion when you’ll find her without a book in her hands, a Kindle in her purse, or a set of headphones over her ears while she devours her current selection on her endless TBR list.
A literary agent with more than ten years of industry experience, Cathie’s journey in publishing was born in 2014 after her oldest child left for college. With newfound time on her hands, she set about writing her first novel, The Edge of Nowhere, a work of Adult Historical Fiction inspired by her grandmother’s life as a widow raising fourteen children during the one-two punch of the 1930s Dust Bowl and The Great Depression. Three years later, she followed up with her sophomore novel, Roam, a Young Adult title inspired by the unhomed community in a Southeastern Minnesota town. The release of this second book coincided with Cathie’s first job as a literary agent where she spent eight years learning the industry before joining the team at Marsal Lyon Literary Agency in May 2024.
An avid reader of many genres, Cathie represents debut and indie authors in the following genres: Romance in all tropes and categories, Women’s Fiction, Upmarket Book Club, Thrillers, Domestic and Psychological Suspense, and Horror. She especially enjoys locked-room mysteries, stories with magical/paranormal elements, and anything fast-paced that can catch her attention in the first few paragraphs. In Nonfiction, Cathie represents niche projects by social media influencers, unique cookbooks, historical fiction (preferably told in a narrative fashion), and subjects related to racial injustice, trauma support and recovery, cooking for those who would rather be anywhere but in the kitchen, and any topic with expert insight related to neurodiversity. She currently has a special interest in topics navigating the Adult ADHD landscape, especially as it relates to coping skills in high-stress situations.
Cathie is never a fit for high fantasy material (i.e. J.R.R. Tolkien or George R.R. Martin) or science fiction. In nonfiction, she he is always on the lookout for projects exploring racial issues, parenting, trauma support and recovery, and cooking for those who’d rather be anywhere but in the kitchen.
