Press Kit

Cathie Hedrick-Armstrong is a life-long lover of books and enjoys vivid memories of the exact moment she unlocked the secret code behind the letters that, when combined, form words. Since then, it’s the rare occasion when she’s without a book in hand, a Kindle in her purse, or a pair of AirPods in her ears while devouring the works of whatever author is her new favorite of the month.

A 1992 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Cathie holds a B.A. in Journalism with a Minor in History.  It was through her time as a member of the El Reno Tribune Explorer Troupe in high school that she realized her love for writing.  With the encouragement of Tribune publisher, Ray Dyer, she decided to pursue journalism as a major.

Cathie’s first professional writing experience came after her college graduation when she took a position at IBM and was given the task of writing the ISO 9000 process documentation for the AS/400 Support Center.  Since then spent the last 20 years in a variety of volunteer writing and editing capacities for various non-profit organizations while raising her two children.

Though Cathie had spent all of her adult life writing nonfiction, it wasn’t until January 2014 when she dedicated her efforts to her first work of fiction. The result was the 2016 release of The Edge of Nowhere, a work of historical fiction loosely inspired by her family’s struggles during the 1930s Dust Bowl and The Great Depression. Okahoma’s premier newspaper, The Oklahoman, reviewed The Edge of Nowhere as “refreshing and devastating. Cathie’s next novel, Roam, released in 2019—this time a young adult novel set in a small Minnesota town—and, in 2021, earned her the honor of Young Adult Author of the Year by Delta Kappa Gamma for their annual Creative Women of Oklahoma Award. Both titles have since been ranked in the top five on the Oklahoma Best Sellers List for their categories.

Now a literary agent at Marsal Lyon Literary Agency, Cathie has nearly a decade of professional industry experience and currently represents approximately thirty clients in a wide range of fiction and select non-fiction. She currently resides in Minnesota where she and her husband of 33 years share two grown children, a son-in-law, and a precocious black lab-mix named Ozzy.
